New travel practices are being observed all over the world, in cities as well as in the countryside. Behaviors are changing, and tourism is adapting. As a result, the terms “responsible tourism”, “sustainable tourism” and “solidarity tourism” are appearing more and more frequently on the Internet. But what do we really mean by responsible and sustainable tourism in Paris? Is this what you’re looking for right now ? And of course, does this concept exist in Paris, and how can you find it? At Hôtel des Marronniers, we’ve taken the green tourism plunge, and here we’ll give you a few keys to finding your way around all this ecological vocabulary 😀
What does sustainable tourism in Paris means ?
What does sustainable tourism means ?
We need to distinguish between two concepts: responsible tourism and sustainable tourism. The two can be reconciled or dissociated. The former implies a desire on the part of travelers or professionals to practice greener tourism, while the latter indicates a desire to respect the environment and the surrounding population. Greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, waste management, etc… So many factors, and much more besides, to be taken into account in the development of responsible, sustainable tourism. It’s important to point out that tourism can be a source of environmental and social devastation. The number of tourists and the practices of those involved in the industry are causing considerable damage to the planet. We need to raise awareness on a massive scale, but we can already take action.
What is a sustainable hotel ?
Every hotel, whether large or small, with or without a restaurant or a spa, can take action to reduce its environmental impact. For example, it can reduce its energy footprint, its water consumption, choose to work with local businesses, etc… There are also individual ways of thinking and operating, such as turning off air conditioning in unreserved rooms. It is also perfectly feasible to inform customers and suggest that they take a proactive role in this collective responsibility. For example, at the Hôtel des Marronniers, we offer our guests the option of not washing their towels every day, if they wish so, or of sorting their waste in their rooms using waste sorting garbage cans. The hotelier can take an eco-responsible approach, but it goes hand in hand with the behavior of his guests.
